As Pharrell Williams touched down in Hong Kong last week to attend Carrera Presents Liberatum Hong Kong International Festival of Culture, the multi-faceted creative had a chance to sit down with HBTV amidst the pre-opening for Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin Hong Kong to converse about his personal interest in art as well as his creative process. With a resume that spans a vast range of creative mediums from music, film scoring, industrial design, sound design, and fashion design, Pharrell is one of the few individuals who are able to balance a diversity of projects while seamlessly maintaining consistency in his own identity as each endeavor unfolds. In our first colloquial dialogue with Pharrell — of which there will be an eventual two parts — he touches on everything from art, managing projects, his thoughts on the difference of American and Asian cuisine as well as sharing memories from his past experiences with NIGO.

Supreme x Vans ‘Campbell’s Soup’ Pack – Release Date

“Mmmm…noodle soup!” The iconic canned food label has teamed up with ‘luxury’ skate brand Supreme for a limited edition capsule of footwear and apparel for this Summer 2012 season. Featuring the holy Vans Skate triumvirate of the Authentic, Half Cab, and Sk8-Hi, this Supreme x Vans ‘Campbell’s Soup’ Pack touches on Andy Warhol’s iconic portrait of the Campbell’s Soup label using the tiled graphic that was made so popular in the 60′s and 70′s. Along with the shoes is a t-shirt and a set of 5-panel caps to round out the complete ensemble. Those located by the NY, LA, and London Supreme shops will have to wait until this May 10th to purchase in-store, but the set is available now at Supreme Japan.

Air Jordan 12 Retro GS ‘Obsidian’ – New Photos

As the summer release schedule continually grows more crowded, we’re reminded of an Air Jordan XII Retro that’s been waiting in the wings for over fifteen years. So even with all the ‘Gold Medal’ and otherwise Olympic attention of late, the ‘Obsidian’ Air Jordan 12 is awaited with equal anticipation, one of the increasingly rare never-retroed Jays and a design that’s really just too beautiful to keep locked up for too much longer. Grainy Obsidian and pebbled white leathers make for a spectacularly clean two-toned look and the select University Blue accents remind us that Jordan was doing the tonal thing long before it was a widespread trend. Yet another case of Tinker’s timeless design shining through on a supremely wearable colorway, the Obsidian Twelves are coming up in June and this Grade School edition gives us a closer look after the jump below. Sandwiched in-between two original colorways of the Air Jordan XII is this crisp and clean ‘Cool Grey’ variety of the Air Jordan XII. Taking a page out of the unbreakable Cool Grey lineage and throwing in a hint of orange (2008′s Air Jordan VIII ‘Orange Blaze’, anyone?) this upcoming mid-late May 2012 release finishes off a solid schedule of Air Jordan Retros for the month of May (preceded by the XI Low and Cavs IV). 2 Chainz kept it so real for this Al Lindstrom interview. He spoke on his start with Playaz Circle and how his entire demeanor and “self-containment” helped his whole run the past months (learning from Lil Wayne), and how it grew to the movement you see today.

Vans Vault Sk8-Hi LX Zip – Blue

Vans has been applying zippers to their classic skate silhouettes as far back as 2008′s Jun Watanabe collaboration, and with this year bringing medial zip enclosures to the forefront, it’s time for another round. But with most other brands opting for that ‘inner zipper’ look, Paul Van Doren’s company has gone ‘Off the Wall’ and sent their zippers to the heel. We saw it first on the mastermind JAPAN collabo and now the Vans Vault Sk8-Hi Zip stands poised to provide this look for the skaters who couldn’t get a hold of that limited collab. This tonal blue pair looks superb with suede atop grainy leather, and an earthy Missoni-leaning striped sockliner adds a final premium touch. Air Jordan IV – Red/White Sample

It certainly is taking quite a while for another adult colorway of the Air Jordan IV to release, because the upcoming Air Jordan IV ‘Cavs’, set to drop on May 12th, would be the first Air Jordan IV sincemid-February’s White/Cement release. Perhaps that elongated gap between Retro IVs is because this Red/White sample was scrapped; as stated in the size-tag (the only true piece of information we can use to date a sneaker), this Red/White sample with a unique matte Foamposite-like upper (as described by the owner) was destined for a Spring 2012 release (Jan-Mar), but it appears that Jordan Brand is following last year’s formula of Retro drops by sticking to OGs and one new concept (the aforementioned ‘Cavs’). With these popping up as well as Gentry’s White/Red Laser IV, perhaps 2012 was intended to be a crazier year for Retro releases, but given the current state of sneaker mania and Nike’s complete upheaval of its sneaker release process, maybe it’s better that these stayed inside the factory doors.
